The Bill Stevens Quartet

"In today's world, where recordings and the Internet have made outstanding music commonplace, we seek to invite listeners into a kind of experience they could only have with live improvisation.  We do this by emphasizing spontaneous interaction amongst performers and cultivating deep emotional attunement with the listening audience."  Since December of 2008, the Bill Stevens Trio has been collaborating with artist Mike Stevens, exploring the synergy of combining improvised music with live painting.  - www.billstevens.net

I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to paint with three very talented musicians:

Guitarist Chip Newton holds a masters degree in performance and teaches music at Elon University.

Pianist Bill Stevens holds a masters degree in performance from UNCG.   When he's not performing, Bill is an active music educator.  From Bill's website: "Bill has been on the faculty of The Walden School's Young Musicianship Program since 2000 and Teacher Training Institute since 2006.  Bill is the author of Jazz Musicianship: A Guidebook for Integrated Learning, volume 1 of which will be released in the summer of 2010."

Trombonist Weldon Kollock is a bit of a local legend.  He has performed in military bands, toured with R&B groups, and played backup for some of the biggest names around.  Weldon's jazz technique is phenomenal!

Audiences really respond to the interplay between the musical improvisation and the live painting.  Here is a photo of us goofing around onstage after a recent gig.
